The Last Thread
Destiny is woven in Norwood. Elara Culver was born to be a thread. Tavish Harrow was born to cut one. When the Loom begins to fail and the world unravels, they discover the threads are alive — and the only blade that can end the Loom will end its weaver. Some fates are not meant to be unraveled.

In the vertical city of Norwood, destiny is not written. It is woven.
Elara Culver has spent her life in the shadow of the Great Looms, where the lower castes are bound to a fate they never chose. She is nothing — a thief in the Tangle Market, invisible beneath the endless hum of threads that dictate who lives, who dies, and who kneels before the throne.
Until the High Lord's heir descends into the Under-Spire and finds her holding the only blade that can cut the fabric of reality itself.
Tavish Harrow does not come for the Needle. He comes for the answers. And the answers will cost them everything.
Forced to flee the claustrophobic heights of the Spire, they plunge into the Wastes — a world where magic runs wild and the rules of the Loom hold no power. But the Loom is not merely a mechanism. It is alive. And it knows her name.
As they peel back the layers of Norwood's buried history, the threads begin to sing a different song — one that promises freedom or annihilation. The final thread is about to snap, and the world unravels.
The only way to save the city is to destroy the very thing that holds it together.
The question is no longer whether the world survives.
It's whether she will.

The thread snapped with a sound like a breaking bone, and the silence that followed was louder than the scream.
Elara did not flinch. She did not gasp. She simply watched the grey strand, frayed and trembling, dissolve into the damp air before she could even wrap it around her finger. The weaver, a woman with hands stained the colour of rust and eyes wide with a desperation that looked like starvation, reached out, but her fingers closed on nothing but the lingering vibration of the severed connection.
"Another empty hand," the weaver muttered, her voice cracking. "The Loom doesn't provide. Does it?"
Elara turned away, her jaw set. The phrase was a curse in the Under-Spire, a rejection of the theological mantra that the High Lords repeated to keep the lower castes compliant and docile. But Elara knew the truth better than anyone. The Loom did not provide; it took. It took the hours, the sweat, the breath, and the quiet dignity of those who lived in its shadow. It wove them into the fabric of the city, tightening the knots until the thread held fast, or until it snapped, leaving behind only a frayed end and a gap in the pattern.
She adjusted the strap of her satchel, her shoulder muscles tightening under the weight of the leather. Her fingers, still tingling from the effort of holding the thread, brushed against the hilt of the small knife at her hip. It was a mundane gesture, a reflex born of years spent in the lower castes, where trust was a currency that had long since devalued and gone to zero. She could feel the echo of the thread’s scream in her mind, a high-pitched whine that faded only when she focused on the immediate, tangible reality of the wet stone under her feet and the rough texture of her own cloak.
The market was a cacophony of survival, a vertical sprawl of stalls built into the sheer inner walls of the Under-Spire, where the light from the upper tiers filtered down in thin, grey ribbons, illuminating the dust that hung suspended in the heavy air. Here, in the shadow of the Great Looms, the atmosphere hung heavy with the smell of wet wool, ozone, and the faint, metallic tang of the subsonic hum that vibrated in the teeth and the bones.
