One forbidden touch to the Coral Heart unleashes a magical storm — and brands a young tide-singer a traitor in Meridian City. Forced to flee to the rival city of Aqualis, a place that despises her kind, she collides with a diplomat who sees only her family's betrayal.
But when their fates bind through tide magic older than the Great Bleaching, she realizes the storm wasn't an accident. As political war ignites and coral reefs die, they must navigate treacherous alliances and the ocean's sentient whispers — racing to uncover the truth before the reefs vanish forever, and their love becomes the ultimate sacrifice.

The Coral Heart pulsed beneath Ianthe Maris’s fingertips, a slow, deep thrum resonating in her bones. Meridian’s Grand Atrium, usually humming with Coralline Weavers tending living spires, lay unnaturally still. Salt and ozone hung heavy in the air. Above, the colossal Heart—living coral the size of a carriage—cast shifting patterns of blue and violet across the lumina-pearl floor. Each pulse sent ripples through the chamber, illuminating forbidden patterns etched into the coral. Ianthe’s breath hitched. She shouldn’t be here. Not after the Archivist’s warning. Yet the Heart’s whisper, its ancient song, had pulled her in. It called to the forbidden magic hidden beneath her Weaver’s robes—the secret knowledge Niamh had risked everything to teach her, the magic that could mend dying reefs, not just weave them.
Her fingers traced grooves in a complex glyph deep within a lesser-known resonance, trembling. This one’s unstable. The cold certainty chilled her more than Meridian’s perpetual sea-breeze. The Great Bleaching left scars in the coral’s song. She’d studied the Sunken Archive’s fragmented texts on this glyph, the one describing the ‘Shattered Tides.’ But the Archive’s scrolls were cold, silent. The Heart’s pulse was alive, urgent. What if it’s not a warning? What if it’s a key? The thought flared, terrifying. Her thumb brushed a jagged fracture in the coral’s surface—a flaw from the Great Bleaching, a wound Meridian’s Weavers had never learned to heal. The moment her skin touched it, the Heart screamed.
Not a sound, but a visceral shock travelling up her arm, through her chest, outwards in a wave of blinding, searing light. The blue and violet hues flared crimson, then cracked like ice. A sound like shattering glass echoed through the Atrium, deeper than any noise could be. The lumina-pearl floor beneath her flared white-hot, then went dark. Panic, sharp and acrid, cut through the air. “The Heart!” “It’s broken!” “The Forbidden Zone!” Security guards in blue-and-silver Meridian livery surged forward, faces grim, coral-etched batons humming with contained power.
